Garthwaite Center for Science and Art Dedicated

The Cambridge School of Weston (CSW) formally dedicated its new -green- Garthwaite Center for Science and Art on Saturday, October 20, 2007.

The gathering provided an opportunity to celebrate CSW's commitment to preserve and protect the environment, and extended a warm thank you to our many generous donors who helped make the new center possible.

Following the formal dedication services, prominent environmentalist, Kevin Knobloch offered a few remarks (see above). A series of sessions highlighting important environmental issues of the day followed. The successful day celebrated CSW and the school's commitment to sustainability, raised general awareness of the scope and magnitude of global environmental concerns, available resources and courses of action, as well as gleaning a greater sense of what we can do as concerned citizens.

The exact schedule of the day was as follows:

Dedication Ceremony - 1 to 1:30 p.m.

Special Remarks - 1:30 to 2 p.m.

Kevin Knobloch, President, Union of Concerned Scientists (Plenary Address)

Tours - starting at 2 p.m. (will also run concurrently with the panel sessions)

Refreshments, Mingling & Special Entertainment - 2 to 3 p.m.

Panel Sessions I - 3 to 3:45 p.m.

Panel Sessions II - 4 to 4:45 p.m.

Events involving art and science took place throughout the afternoon:

  • Vignettes from Brecht's "Galileo" performed by CSW students under the direction of Robin Wood, CSW Theatre Chair
  • Musical fanfare (Olivier Messiaen's "Appel interstellaire" from his 1974 work "Des Canyons aux -toiles-) performed by Michael Weinstein, CSW Music Chair
  • High-tech art by David Durlach '76, founder of TechnoFrolics (http://www.technofrolics.com).
