Jane's Pocket Change: A Quiet Walk for 2016
As we begin our new year here at CSW, our expectations are high. Here’s the chance, as each mod gives to us, to begin again, to take our goals and plans and move forward.
As we begin our new year here at CSW, our expectations are high. Here’s the chance, as each mod gives to us, to begin again, to take our goals and plans and move forward. We want the best for ourselves and those around us. We want to be able to live in a more peaceful, understanding world.
Just before the end of 2015, I found a chance to do one of my favorite things—something that helps me slow down and contemplate the world a bit—walk a labyrinth. According to the crystalinks
website: “
A labyrinth is an ancient symbol that relates to wholeness. It combines the imagery of the circle and the spiral into a meandering but purposeful path. It represents a journey to our own center and back again out into the world.
”
The labyrinth I walked is part of the Rose Kennedy Greenway in Boston, more specifically at the core of the Armenian Heritage Park. The organized walk was an opportunity for users of the park to focus together on world peace; I enjoyed the moment of calm and reflection it afforded me during the busy holiday period. I was even quoted in the
Boston Globe—see the link
here.As you begin your new year, be sure to find these moments of reflection and quiet. At CSW, we hope that the longer blocks of class time, focused schedule, our longer lunchtimes, and the breaks between mods, will grant time for students to have a change of pace. My hope for 2016 is that we all take these moments and use them as part of our positive growth.
