With more than 150 pieces of art donated by internationally acclaimed and professional artists, students, faculty, parents and alumni/ae, The Cambridge School of Weston (CSW) will host its second Changing Lives With Art auction and benefit on Saturday, April 16, 2011 at 7 p.m. at the Garthwaite Center for Science and Art. Proceeds from this elegant evening will benefit the school’s visual arts program.

“This is an amazing opportunity to purchase remarkable pieces of original art while supporting a worthy cause,” said Todd Bartel, director of the Thompson Gallery at CSW and visual arts teacher at the school. “There will be wide range of media represented including pieces made of bronze, stained glass, and photography, to oil paintings, drawings, and turned wood bowls, all available to the highest bidder. We anticipate the items that have been selected for this auction range in value from $150 to $5,000 – an affordable entry point into the art market for many who enjoy owning original art.”

The art for auction was thoughtfully chosen through a juried selection process led by Bartel and Zach Feuer (CSW ’96), owner of the acclaimed Zach Feuer Gallery in New York City, which specializes in contemporary art.

High profile professional artists whose art will be available during the live bidding portion of the evening include: internationally acclaimed sculptor and artist Alexander Calder; Ian Falconer (CSW ’77), author/illustrator of much loved children’s bestseller "Olivia;" and locally celebrated artist John Walker, director of the Graduate School of Painting at Boston University. Also up for auction are three screen prints titled “The Wicked Curse Reversed," created by Matt Johnson (CSW ’96) and Jonas Wood (CSW ’95), professional artists who collaborated on this project that is expected to generate heavy bidding from Red Sox fans.

Bidders attending the event will be able to view and bid in both a silent auction and a live auction while enjoying a medley of hors d’oeuvres, beverages and live music.
To purchase tickets ($65), visit auction.csw.org or call Ann Bickerton at 781-642-8600. The event is open to the public. Auction catalogs will be sent to those who purchase tickets in advance. All proceeds benefit the visual arts program at CSW.
