Thompson Gallery Exhibit Features Work of Alumni/ae Artists
The Thompson Gallery at The Cambridge School of Weston (CSW) is pleased to present “Part Curiosity, Part Vision,” an exhibit that explores the school’s convictions about learning, process, and product through the work of five alumni/ae artists. The Thompson Gallery at The Cambridge School of Weston (CSW) is pleased to present “Part Curiosity, Part Vision,” an exhibit that explores the school’s convictions about learning, process, and product through the work of five alumni artists.
“Part Curiosity, Part Vision,” which opens Sept. 7 and will run through Nov. 9, is the first exhibit in a three-part series titled, Boundless Ambition, a theme that celebrates CSW's 125-year history. An opening reception with the artists will be held at the gallery Sept. 9, 4-7 p.m. A gallery talk with gallery director, Todd Bartel, will be held at the gallery Oct. 1, 1-2 p.m.
This is the first time that acclaimed Los Angeles-based sculptor, Matt Johnson ’96, a New York Times Critic’s Pick in 2004, whose work has appeared in solo and group exhibitions in New York, Los Angeles, London, Prague, Paris and Tokyo, will show his work in Boston.
The exhibit also features the work of Darcy Brennan Poor ’99, whose prints and drawings have been featured in Boston, New York, and other cities; Florida-based artist Deborah Goldman ’65, whose work explores the importance and obsession of counting; New York-based painter Carmelle Safdie ’00; and printmaker Dan Wood ’88, a critic at the Rhode Island School of Design who incorporates found objects into his print work.
“Part Dedication, Part Abandon,” the second exhibit in the series which opens in the winter, will feature the work of artists among the faculty and staff. “Part Process, Part Product,” the final exhibit in the series which opens in the spring, will feature work of seven alumni/ae: Austin Eddy '05, Chris Freeman '80, Niho Kozuru '06, Jennifer Langhammer '89, Julie Oppermann '00, Jonas Wood '96, and Kelly Zutrau '06.

The Thompson Gallery is a teaching gallery dedicated to exploring a single theme through three separate exhibitions, offering differing vantages of the selected topic throughout the school year. Named in honor of CSW trustee John Thompson and family, the gallery promotes opportunities to experience contemporary art by local, national and international artists and periodically showcases the art of the alumni/ae, faculty and staff of The Cambridge School of Weston.
The Cambridge School of Weston is a progressive high school for day and boarding students in grades 9–12 and PG.
