Facing History and Ourselves, one of CSW’s longtime partner organizations, is providing support for the Elevating and Celebrating Effective Teaching and Teachers (ECET2) event held at CSW Friday, January 23 and Saturday, January 24, 2015. The event is completely free of charge for all educators.

Luis Moreno Ocampo, human rights advocate and the first prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, will be the keynote speaker at a special reception on Friday, January 23 from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm.

Featuring sessions by and for local educators, this event will focus on celebrating and sharing effective teaching strategies, programs and ideas, and will focus on discourse related to integrating humanities, Common Core State Standards, and civic responsibility in the classroom.

Ultimately, the goal of ECET2 is to improve learning outcomes for students. ECET2 aims to help teachers develop as leaders in their classrooms and schools. Sessions include a strong focus on issues of globalization, civic dilemmas and student voice. ECET2 was organized by two teachers who attended a national ECET2 conference in Snowbird, UT with the Gates Foundation. When given the opportunity, they decided to apply for their own funding to host a regional ECET2 convening in the Boston area.

“The thing I love about the ECET2 program is its emphasis on elevating and celebrating teachers,” said Brittany L. Burns, one of the organizers. “My hope is that ECET2: Creating Global Citizens in a Changing World will provide teachers in Massachusetts with an opportunity to celebrate our profession and work together to address crucial issues in education.”
