The Cambridge School of Weston

Heads' Corner

The Cambridge School of Weston welcomed Dan Coleman to the community as the assistant head of school in July 2007. He has nearly 20 year of experience in the education field as a teacher, administrator and consultant.

Previously, he has taught literature, writing, philosophy, and education at the high school, college, and graduate levels in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York and Vermont—as well as ESL, for a short stint, in the Czech Republic.

Dan co-founded the Center for Creative Teaching at Bennington College, directed Skidmore College’s Master of Arts in Liberal Studies program, and—just before coming to CSW—served as president of The Writers’ Express, a Cambridge (Mass.)-based non-profit that works with urban schools to use writing to drive student acheivement across the curriculum.

Born and raised in New York, Dan earned an interdisciplinary humanities degree from the University of Chicago and a doctorate in English from Cornell University.

Dan met his wife, Kim, while they were both teaching high school in New York. Soon after, Kim decided to become a physician, and she now divides her time between practicing internal medicine and teaching medical students. Dan and Kim live in Cambridge and have two thoroughly delightful children.
