The best thing about working at CSW is that the diversity of the student body has taught us a lot about other cultures and traditions that we most likely would not have encountered. The relaxed atmosphere of the school has allowed us the opportunity to forge excellent relationships with the students, especially the students in our dorm. They will often come into our apartment and chat with us about their day or play with our cat, Oreo.

Our favorite thing about being dorm parents is watching the students grow into mature young adults. Even though we are new dorm parents, we have already seen great changes in a few of the younger boys who aspire to be dorm leaders, or hold other positions of leadership on campus.

One of the greatest aspects of working with CSW athletes is their gratitude. All of the students I have encountered have always thanked me for spending time with them. Athletic Training is often a thankless job, so it's always nice to be appreciated. The coaches are always appreciative too, and I feel blessed to be in a situation where so many people are polite!

The best thing about CSW students is their freedom to express themselves, in their own way. Self-expression is one of the biggest struggles for high school students, and we are fortunate to have a community as accepting as CSW. The school’s philosophy encourages students to question and challenge, and pushes them to develop intelligent and logical arguments in situations where they feel a change is needed. We feel that this is allowing the students to develop thought processes that normally start to develop in college.

The thing about CSW that really stands out our minds is not one specific moment, but an ongoing environment within the dorm. Watching the boys develop relationships with each other and working together has been a great part of being dorm parents. Our dorm developed a “vision statement” to help build mutual respect and pride within the dorm. This “vision statement” was written and signed by the students and dorm parents in Aleph. The boys have also challenged themselves with a “contract” on reducing the number of Dorm Boards for rule infractions. With these two instances, the boys are holding themselves to a higher standard and building respect within the community and themselves.
