The Cambridge School of Weston

Why CSW?

The Cambridge School of Weston welcomes students and families who care deeply about learning. CSW is a progressive school where intellectual, artistic and physical pursuits are equally valued and encouraged. We offer a highly personalized, challenging, college-preparatory program for grades 9 through 12 and post-graduates, featuring:

  • The Module System
With its innovative structure and longer class periods, our unique approach to academics allows for concentrated discussions, hands-on learning and deep engagement. Students fulfill academic expectations while choosing from as many as 300 required and elective classes.

  • Small classes
CSW's student to faculty ratio is 6:1 and the average class size range is 8 to 12 students.

  • Accessible and well-qualified teachers
Our faculty members are published writers and poets, exhibiting artists, prominent choreographers, research mathematicians and scientists, accomplished athletes, and performing musicians. CSW selects teachers who are committed to students and who convey their scholarly enthusiasm and curiosity to those they teach. Seventy percent of our full-time faculty hold advanced degrees in their fields.

  • A supportive advising system
We set aside a part of each academic day for students to meet with their advisors. Each advisor works with no more than eight advisees throughout the year.

  • Excellence in the performing and visual arts
Dance, music, theater and visual arts courses are an integral part of CSW life and are scheduled alongside academic classes during the school day. Our students are able to choose from diverse course offerings such as African Dance, Rock/Pop Ensemble, Puppetry and Digital Filmmaking.

  • A wide range of competitive and recreational athletics
CSW's athletic offerings include team sports such as soccer and basketball, as well as individual activities like yoga and cycling. The Athletic Department welcomes all who wish to participate and are willing to make the commitment.

  • Opportunities for student involvement in decision-making
Students participate in making critical school decisions. CSW is one of only a handful of schools in the country which includes students and faculty as voting members on its Board of Trustees. Students on Judicial Board play a key role in disciplinary matters, and a Town Meeting style of community governance ensures that all voices at CSW are heard.

  • An ethical school community
    Deep mutual respect, personal integrity

and accountability in both academic and personal matters are at the heart of CSW life. Our community is actively engaged in issues of social and political justice, environmental awareness and global understanding.

  • A rich extracurricular program
Students participate in a wide range of afternoon activities. The program includes clubs, committees, school and community service work, academic and arts labs, Chorus, Percussion Ensemble, the Literary Magazine, the Yearbook Committee, athletics and more.

  • A home-like boarding program
CSW's boarding program offers a tight-knit community, structures to support students' academic commitments, involved dorm parents and a fun weekend activities program which takes advantage of our proximity to Cambridge and Boston.

  • Comprehensive college placement services
Virtually all CSW graduates go on to four-year colleges and art schools. An experienced team of college counselors guides students and families through the higher education application process.
