The theater arts program at CSW is designed to expand students' knowledge of all forms of drama and aspects of theatrical production. Plays are chosen that broaden social awareness, develop acting and production skills, create joy and foster a commitment to working as an ensemble. Students work with lighting, set design, costumes and sound, and participate in a variety of venues for acting, stage managing and directing.
Through the collaborative process of producing many plays throughout the year, students develop discipline and gain the skills to succeed in any endeavor. Students learn to connect this discipline and perseverance with the successful outcome of a performance.
All mainstage productions are interpreted into American Sign Language (ASL) by professional interpreters. The school offers students ASL instruction, as well as the opportunity to join Pocket Players, a bilingual (ASL/Spoken English) touring children's theater group, which performs for Deaf and hearing audiences throughout the year.
A unique opportunity for international students is provided by the program's International Theater Company. International students are given the chance to write, perform and produce plays in English that share cultural values.
