Athletic Training

Athletic Trainers are highly qualified, multi-skilled health care professionals, who work in the field of sports medicine under the supervision of a physician. CSW's athletic trainer provides injury prevention services, emergency care, injury assessments, therapeutic treatment and rehabilitation for injuries sustained during sports or dance. The athletic trainer is present at every CSW home event.

All athletic injuries should be reported to the athletic trainer in order for proper care and follow up. Should an injury occur after hours or at an away game, the coach will notify the appropriate personnel for treatment.

Neurocognitive (ImPACT) Testing

As part of our concussion management program, all students must have an up-to-date ImPACT test on file. ImPACT is a user-friendly, computer-based testing program specifically designed for the management of sports-related concussions. The instrument has been designed after approximately 10 years of University-based, grant-supported research. ImPACT is currently the most widely utilized computerized program in the world and is implemented effectively across high school, collegiate and professional levels of sport participation. See www.impacttest.com for more information.

Sports and Dance Injuries

If an athlete or dancer is injured to the point that they cannot participate at practice, a note will be given to the athlete for the coach with instructions regarding the level of participation for that practice. The injured athlete/dancer will receive a new note for each practice until they are cleared to fully participate. This means that the athlete must continue to see the athletic trainer on a daily basis until they are cleared for competition. The athlete must attend practices daily when injured, unless instructed not to by the coach. If the athlete is injured with a concussion, they may not participate until they are cleared by their physician and athletic trainer. The athlete must follow the return-to-play progression, supervised directly by the athletic trainer. The athletic trainer will inform the coach when the athlete is cleared for full-contact practice. The athlete cannot play in a game until they have completed a full practice.
