A Beautiful Campus
The small, cozy world of the Children's Garden is situated on the beautiful, wooded, 65-acre campus of The Cambridge School of Weston, a coeducational, independent secondary school for about 300 students. The Children's Garden is an integral part of the curriculum and life of CSW.
Adolescents and Young Children: Mutually Enriching
Conceived and built by CSW faculty and students in 1973, Children's Garden was founded on the premise that there is mutual enrichment in the interaction of adolescents and young children. CSW students add a unique dimension to the daily life of Children's Garden. The children are exposed to the creativity, enthusiasm and energy that teenagers bring, whether as part of a child development course or to fulfill school service or work-study commitments. The pre-schoolers are a lively presence on campus, visiting the student-faculty art shows, attending theater and dance performances, twirling around the dance lab, or playing games in the gymnasium.
Parents Are Integral
Parents are integral to the life of Children's Garden; their energy, ideas and support are vital to the school. Early in the year, parents are tapped for their special skills and resources, and are encouraged to meet their 15-hour work commitment in a variety of ways. Parents provide materials and support for classroom projects, substitute for teachers, do building and beautification projects, or contribute in whatever way they can to the life of the school. Parents are always invited to visit. The small size of the center allows for close, daily communication between teachers and parents, as well as more formal parent-teacher conferences twice annually.
