Every student graduates from CSW understanding the value of community service and how he or she can actively give back to the world. Students are required to complete a minimum of fifteen hours of service per year. The work may be done over the summer, during D Blocks, one-time weekend efforts, or with ongoing projects. Each student plans an individual way to meet this requirement - according to personal interests and scheduling considerations - with the community service coordinator. Students who wish to get involved in a more comprehensive way may join the school's Community Service Learning Committee. Each year the student-led group designs and implements school-wide service learning and social justice workshops and events. In addition, they help develop a service learning vision for the school.
Did You Know? Over thirty CSW students participate yearly in the Walk for Hunger, raising money to stock food shelves in Massachusetts.
CSW's student-led book drive has so far donated over 7000 books to various area organizations.
Many CSW students do community service around the world. In 2007, they served in Costa Rica, Guatemala, Bolivia, Spain and India, among others. |
