The planning was a collaborative effort between students, faculty, staff, Genesis (a project management company) and friends of the school. The group met to brainstorm goals that the design should meet. The goals were based on those things our community values the most. The group selected the 13 most important guiding principles and while the goals ranged from general to specific, at the forefront was the motivation to develop a first-rate science facility.
After a couple of years of planning, design work began in 2005. The building was designed by Architerra, Inc., a Boston-based architectural firm dedicated to sustainable and comprehensive green design. Construction began in June 2006.
