I am thinking about the recent COP28 Climate Summit Deal, yesterday’s Zoomvisory meetings, and the magic of stop-motion animation.
WHAT I’M READING
- I was heartened to read that close to 200 countries approved a global pact to reduce reliance on fossil fuels like oil, gas, and coal, in search of cleaner, more sustainable solutions at the COP28 Climate Summit in Dubai. Of course, there is still so much more work to be done, and there is no guarantee that countries will fulfill this promise, but I do think it’s an important step in the right direction.
WHAT I’M THINKING/TALKING ABOUT
- I am thinking about yesterday’s Zoomvisory meetings and how proud and grateful I am of the advisor system we have in place here at CSW. As parents and guardians, it’s so important to us that our children are seen, known, heard, and cared for, and I hope that, as you spoke with your students’ advisors yesterday, you came away feeling assured and excited for what’s to come this year for your child and family. I would also just like to point out how much I appreciate the fact that we include students in these Zoomvisory conversations. It’s important that we talk with our students, and not about them.
WHAT I'M WATCHING/LISTENING TO
- Did you know that a four-second scene of stop-motion animation can take around a week to film? I learned this in watching this behind-the-scenes look at the upcoming sequel to Chicken Run — Dawn of the Nugget. I will admit, I have not watched the movie, but I was amazed at the time, effort, patience, and artistry that goes into creating a film like this. With computers today, there’s no need to engage in such a painstakingly slow process, and yet, I think it’s beautiful that people still do, and that it’s just as enjoyable to audiences. It shows that even as the world grows more automated, there is still value and beauty in the “analog” process.
WHAT CAUGHT MY EYE
I recently got to join in on one of the Aleph Dorm's famous barbecues. This week we enjoyed Yakiniku — Japanese Barbecue. Yum!
