Winter Wilderness Trip Snow Shoes through the White Mountains

During the mod break, the CSW Wilderness Trip Program brought two groups to the White Mountains in New Hampshire. Both groups started at Lafayette Campground and hiked to the AMC Hut at Lonesome Lake, where they enjoyed breathtaking views of Franconia Ridge and Lonesome Lake, which was completely frozen over.
Once students unpacked for the night, they cooked dinner in the hut kitchen, warmed up by the wood fire, and enjoyed playing Bananagrams (CSW Math teacher Gabe Kane is an unofficial professional Bananagrammer). The following day, both groups strapped on their snowshoes for a day hike: one group hiked up to the summit of Mt. Cannon and glissaded their way back down while the other traversed the Kinsman Ridge.

Once both groups returned, they enjoyed warming up by the fire and munching on freshly baked cookies in the AMC hut kitchen. We returned to Lafayette Campground the following morning and unpacked. It was a very successful trip, with many experienced students remarking that it was “the most pleasant and fun Wilderness Trip to date.” We hope to see more students sign up for future trips!
