This could be yours! |
Each year the CSW parents organize a fund-raising auction. This year's auction features vacation homes in Boston, Cape Cod, Vermont, Maine, Long Island, and San Luis Obispo, California; concert tickets for Celebrity Series, BSO, and Allman Brothers Band performances; sports tickets for the Red Sox and Celtics; dinners and wine tastings, restaurant gift certificates, and more!
These items are generously donated by CSW families, and proceeds from the auction will support faculty development and community life programs-a benefit for CSW's teachers and students.

Katherine Siegel '09 presents her work on US National Park trails |
The 2008 Multicultural Service Fair took place during assembly on January 24. Ten current and former CSW students presented their service-based travel experiences that ranged from land conservation and National Park trail reconstruction to travel in Spain, Thailand, New Orleans and Latin America. Following their brief presentations, the community visited informational booths outside the auditorium to learn more about these and other opportunities directly from the participants and travel program representatives.
Alumna participant, Miwa Oseki-Robbin'07, who had just returned to the States, spent several months in Bolivia and Peru doing community service. Her initial interest in service travel began after a five-week summer stay on a Navajo Reservation prior to her junior year at CSW. At that time, she realized the importance of keeping an eye to the world and chose to volunteer and travel for a "gap" year following high school and prior to attending Macalester College in the fall of 2008.
Joyce Krensky, community service coordinator, and Ben Ibbetson, Spanish and history teacher, led the assembly and encouraged students to become involved in these programs as a path to further language education, self-discovery and horizon building.

Manny Haile, Meron Hailekiros and Sophia Omuemu |
On Friday evening, November 30, the Heritage Theatre Company had the honor of performing a scene from Lorraine Hansberry's "Raisin in the Sun" during the People of Color Conference at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center. CSW faculty members attending the conference as part of CSW's professional day included Martha Fischhoff, Matthew Goodman, Martha Gray, Sara Honig, Liz Nee, Nick Reynolds, Shubha Sunder, Ayako Tanaka, Anjali Tyagi, Brian Walker and J. Michael Steele.
The troupe which consists of students Meron Hailekiros, Kareema Thomas, Manny Haile, Sophia Omuemu, and Blen Girum (director) performed their 7-minute piece to close the day's events. The evening performances were part of a juried selection from among many neighboring independent schools.
Hansberry's title draws from the Langston Hughes poem of the same name.
"A Raisin in the Sun"
What happens to a dream deferred?
Does it dry up
like a raisin in the sun?
Or fester like a sore—
And then run?
Doe it stink like rotten meat?
Or crust and sugar over—
like a syrupy sweet?
Maybe it just sags
like a heavy load
Or does it explode?

The Cambridge School of Weston Theatre Department presents Bertolt Brecht’s “Galileo” November 1-3 at 7:30 p.m. in the Mugar Center for Performing Arts’ Kluchman Theatre. American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation will be provided for the November 3 performance.
A cast and crew of 40 produce the play, which addresses the struggle between scientific responsibility, morality, ethics, politics, religion and authority as the protagonist must make tough decisions that affect his life and those of the people closest to him.
Premiering before the main production, “Atom and Eve” is a short, farcical science opera with lyrics by Marc Abrahams and music by Gilbert and Sullivan. In the opera, Abrahams, the editor of the “Annals of Improbable Research,” tells the story of Eve falling in love with an atom.
Although admission to the fall production is free, non-perishable food items will be collected at the door for the Food Pantry. Any monetary donations go to support the ASL Program at CSW.
