Meet Manveer

While at CSW, Manveer was captivated by history, literature, and photography classes—mostly because his teachers were so passionate and inspired Manveer to work harder and to fall in love with his classes. He was also a dorm leader, a representative on our Judicial Board, and a member of the basketball team. His favorite part about boarding at CSW was the memories he created with his dorm parents and dormmates.

What achievement at CSW were you most proud of?

I taught a class about Malaysian culture that included lessons on language, politics, history, food, and religion. It ran for an entire Mod as a D-Block class and I had 18 students, including my advisor. When I became a Resident Assistant in college, I designed programs for my residents about Malaysian culture, and a lot of that was a reflection of my earlier work at CSW.

What did you take away from your CSW experience that helped you later?

CSW really showed me the importance of building strong relationships. I met with my advisor almost every day, and my teachers got to know me as a person. The relationship between student and teacher extends beyond the classroom at CSW. This is so important to understand, because when you go to college, it's imperative to see your professors as more than just your teacher. They are there to guide you and help unleash your potential.

How were you changed by your experience at CSW?

I matured at CSW and my attitude changed a lot—I stopped depending on others. I realized that to achieve success I had to work hard. And I learned that the fate of my future was in my own hands, not that of my parents, teachers, or anyone else. CSW was full of people who supported me, but they could never walk the road to success for me.

What advice would you give to future international students?

Don't be afraid to be who you are. Don't abandon your roots, culture, or traditions. Be proud of your culture, and teach others about who you are and where you come from. Your experience and perspective will be valued at CSW.
