Hosted annually by English in Action: The English Speaking Union, the National Shakespeare Competition provides teachers across the country with a performance-based program for the study of English Language Arts and Shakespeare. Through the Competition, students develop communication skills and an appreciation of the power of language and literature. Approximately 2,500 teachers and 20,000 students in nearly 60 ESU Branch communities participate each year.

Student pariticpants must select their monologues from the 2018 Monologue Selection Packet, provided by the ESU. The selections offer a variety of monologues, up to twenty-two lines, from a number of plays; students may select any monologue, regardless of gender.

Congratulations to Natalie and her fellow regional winners. We look forward to cheering her on later this month!
