Visual Arts Teacher and Thompson Gallery Director Todd Bartel Honored in the Art World

Visual Arts Teacher and Thompson Gallery Director Todd Bartel has been making waves in the visual arts world. Known as a collage-based artist, Todd’s work assumes assembled forms of painting, drawing, and sculpture that examine the roles of landscape and nature in contemporary culture.

Visual Arts Teacher and Thompson Gallery Director Todd Bartel has been making waves in the visual arts world. Known as a collage-based artist, Todd’s work assumes assembled forms of painting, drawing, and sculpture that examine the roles of landscape and nature in contemporary culture.

Todd was recently cited as an artist and curator for having
coined the term "uncollage," with his quote appearing in a new Rizzoli publication on Grandma Moses, published by the Bennington Museum. “Uncollage” is a term invented by Todd to describe the combining of multiple borrowed image sources into a cohesive painted whole without leaving any trace of their disparate origins.

Todd has also been invited to present on three separate occasions at the upcoming Kolaj Fest, the first symposium in the US dedicated to the art of collage. He will be on a panel of curators to discuss his strategy for presenting three exhibitions that explore a single theme, as well as the publications he has done for the gallery. Specifically, Todd was asked to discuss the Strange Glue—Collage at 100 exhibition series.

Todd is excited to head to New Orleans July 12-15 to present his work at a two-part session entitled Materials & Sources that explores eight artists’ work, including some of his own. Todd will be serving as the moderator and organizer of this event and has been working with the artists to plan their presentation
