Music Teacher Michael Weinstein Releases New Music

CSW is excited to announce the recent release of two publications featuring music by Music Department Chair Michael Weinstein. The first is “Neopolitan Ode,” a piece written as part of the Frank L. Battisti 85th Birthday Commission Project. Frank Battisti is a former conductor/mentor of Michael’s. Although Michael intentionally designed the piece so that it could potentially be played by anyone – including a high school-aged orchestra — he describes the piece as “vaguely modern,” as it switches time signatures often, but only between 4/4 or 3/4. Michael also has a track on the forthcoming album “The View from My Window,” by Judson Jay Scott (trumpet) and Cristina Valdes (piano). Tracks 1-5 make up Michael’s “Sonata for Trumpet and Piano,” which Michael says is his first and only trumpet sonata (so far!). The album will soon be available wherever you stream music.

Michael has been chair of CSW’s Music Department since 2001. He is also an Assistant Professor of Composition at the Berklee College of Music, where he teaches traditional harmony and counterpoint, computer notation, and contemporary techniques. In addition, Michael serves on the faculty of the New England Conservatory Preparatory Division in the Theory Department.

The Cambridge School of Weston is a progressive high school for day and boarding students in grades 9–12 and PG. CSW's mission is to provide a progressive education that emphasizes deep learning, meaningful relationships, and a dynamic program that inspires students to discover who they are and what their contribution is to their school, their community and the world.
