Artist Kasem Kydd '14 Presents at Assembly

Artist and CSW alum Kasem Kydd '14 gave an artist talk at assembly this week where they shared the thinking and inspirations behind their art, tracing back from their days as a student at CSW to the present.

Kasem's work is currently on display in the Thompson Gallery through the end of the mod. Their exhibition, Was, Is, An Eclipse, confronts viewers with a rumination on the roots white supremacy and its persistent effects on black people(s). Kasem exhibits their assemblages, collages, installation, and video works that address this sensitive and timely topic with directness, irony, and poetic allusion. Was, Is, An Eclipse simultaneously examines self amidst these changing times, while the installation poetically but soberingly calls to memory the history of Colonial slavery. At the heart of their work is a call for the kind of justice that is culturally transformational.

Thank you, Kasem, for coming back to CSW and sharing your story with us!
