Pandemic Allows CSW to Try Out Gender Inclusive Housing

While CSW has seen many “firsts” this year, over the Winter Break, the Residential Community experienced what we hope will be an important milestone in our community and one which we hope to continue: the first gender-inclusive dorm in CSW’s history.

CSW has long discussed the possibility of all-gender housing — it aligns with our core values and the desires of many of our students — but logistics stood in the way. The small number of students on campus over the Winter Break allowed for a great opportunity to test out a gender-inclusive space and by all accounts, it was a huge success.

Says one 12th grader, “This is a first time experience for me that has allowed me the opportunity to learn about different points of view in my living environment!”

Another student comments on the connections she has made: “It's been really nice getting to spend more time with people I don't normally get to spend this much time with! It felt like a really close-knit community that was nice to be a part of.”

We are happy to report that we will be able to continue to offer gender-inclusive housing during Mod 4 and we hope to continue to offer this opportunity in our Residential Community going forward.
