Lise's Lens: June 9, 2022

This week, on the last day of classes, Lise reflects on yesterday's Senior Night festivities and the mixed emotions that can come with the end of the school year.

WHAT I’M READING

WHAT I’M LISTENING TO/WATCHING

  • Last night I, along with the faculty and staff, got to witness the senior class come together in celebration for our annual Senior Night. Following a cookout dinner on the quad, the night kicked off with a game of Jeopardy covering CSW trivia. After, the seniors awarded each academic and administrative department a special award and each senior was given a “superlative.” We then watched a fun slideshow in which each senior (and participating faculty and staff) shared a baby photo, a “tween” photo, and a current photo. Last, seniors got to take to the mic to share advice, recollections, and memories from their time here. It was a beautiful night and I am so proud of all our seniors.

WHAT I’M THINKING/TALKING ABOUT

  • I’m thinking about the mixed feelings around the last week of school for teachers, students and staff. It's incredibly busy, yet we want time to reflect not only on this mod but the year. Emotions are running high, especially for seniors yet many are exhausted. Some are looking forward to summer plans, some are apprehensive about being far away from friends and support systems. Sometimes, then, it makes us forget about the scope of the entire year. It's been rich in learning both academically and emotionally, and our students and their experiences have once again contributed greatly to the tapestry of the school community.

WHAT CAUGHT MY EYE

As part of their CE Project, Coco Wu ’23 and Alice Wang ’23, focused on how art is connected to sustainability and climate change. For the End-of-Mod show, they gathered relevant student artwork and exhibited it on the path between the second floor of the Garthwaite and the barn. It had to come down due to weather, so I am pleased to have this photo snapped by Art Department Chair Chris Whittaker.
