"Since my first mod, I have been empowered by teachers and classmates to participate in experiences that encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone and to take the lead on projects I'm passionate about."

WHAT DO YOU CONSIDER TO BE THE GREATEST STRENGTH OF CSW'S ACADEMIC PROGRAM?

CSW's discussion-based classes allow me to simultaneously be a speaker and listener, knowing how to take space and make space as I exchange ideas with fellow classmates. I've become a much stronger communicator, student, and learner as a result.

OF ALL THE CLASSES YOU'VE TAKEN HERE, WHICH HAVE BEEN YOUR FAVORITE?

Alexander the Great
"Alexander the Great" was my first upper-level history class. I switched in last minute and enjoyed it so much! There was always engaging discussion and the reenactments we did as a class helped me gain a better understanding of the culture and time period during which Alexander the Great lived.

Chemistry
This was a super fun science class! I learned so much by working in small groups with others in my class to formulate hypotheses and build lab experiments. I really liked how we'd regularly switch back and forth from group discussions to hands-on projects.

Ordering Chaos
A combination of art, English, and math, "Ordering Chaos" embodied the definition of integrated learning. Instead of just studying the science of Malaria, for example, we viewed the disease through a number of different lenses, contextualizing the concept and deepening our understanding of its impact.

WHAT HAVE BEEN SOME OF YOUR MOST MEMORABLE MOMENTS AT CSW?

  • I loved traveling to Hurricane Island for the "Marine Biology" course. It was a really unique experience to be able to live off the grid and conduct hands-on, real-time research with working marine biologists. I felt like the work we were doing really mattered.

  • I always love All Boarders Weekend, an annual three-day event filled with activities for the boarding community. This year we competed in field games, went kayaking, performed skits, told ghost stories over a campfire, and enjoyed a special, family-style dinner in the dining hall. It was a lot of fun.

  • I was one of the organizers behind CSW's first-ever Model UN conference. We put so much work into planning the event and inviting other schools, that the moment the actual event started, I could hardly believe it was really happening. Our chosen theme, "Youth and Diplomacy," proved to be a great choice!

HOW HAS YOUR TIME AT CSW SHAPED YOU AS A PERSON?

All of the experiences and opportunities I've had here at CSW have challenged me to step out of my comfort zone, try new things, and meet new people. It's made me a stronger leader and a more well-rounded person.
