"As a musician and someone who loves science, I was able to combine my interests in a physics class by studying sound waves to design and build my own instrument. At CSW, students can bring their own interests and passions and make them part of the academic work."

WHAT DO YOU CONSIDER TO BE THE GREATEST STRENGTH OF CSW'S ACADEMIC PROGRAM?

One of the greatest strengths of CSW’s academic program is that it's incredibly flexible. With so many people here to guide you, it's easy to make an academic schedule that caters to your interests while still meeting graduation requirements. The Module System allows for more classes to be taken than the traditional semester or trimester system, thus exposing you to a wider range of material, ideas, and teachers.

OF ALL THE CLASSES YOU'VE TAKEN HERE, WHICH HAVE BEEN YOUR FAVORITE?

The Monkey King
What an epic story! I also learned how to do calligraphy while reading the book in this class.

From Atoms to Ecosystems -- Design
I enjoyed this class because I got to learn how to design my own building and make a scale model of it.

Mandarin
Learning a new language is not easy, but Po-Wei (my teacher) finds exciting ways to blend Mandarin into our everyday life.

WHAT HAVE BEEN SOME OF YOUR MOST MEMORABLE MOMENTS AT CSW?

  • The huge, all-dorm snowball fight on the quad last winter.

  • The time we got to travel to Amsterdam as part of a "Social Design" course.

  • Going to my science teacher Bob's house to finish building a Lyre for my "Harmonics" class.

HOW HAS YOUR TIME AT CSW SHAPED YOU AS A PERSON?

Transitioning from a public school to CSW as a boarder was a tremendous change for me. When I came to CSW, besides noticing how inviting the community was, I also noticed in the first couple of days how enthusiastic people were about what they love to do. CSW's community also created a space for me to focus and build upon my leadership. I was used to working independently, but throughout my time at CSW, I have learned the importance of reaching out when help is needed. CSW has helped me find what I'm most passionate about and because of that, I have made great strides in discovering who I want be in the future.
