The Boys' Varsity Basketball team squared off against their toughest divisional opponent to date in Waring School yesterday, and for pure basketball fans this game did not disappoint. Both teams clearly wanted to make statements early and often with an aggressive style of "in your face" defense that never let up throughout the entirety of the game. It was a game of runs from each side and Waring was first to jump out to a double-digit lead halfway through the first half, capitalizing on CSW's early mistakes.

Next it was the Gryphons' turn to make a run, cutting the lead to only 3 points by halftime (20-23) lead by
Evan Smith '15, who played his best game of the season and Chris Green '16, who was solid as usual running the point. CSW opened the second half with another run, holding Waring scoreless for several minutes as the Gryphons took their first lead of the game, resulting in a much needed timeout by Waring.

However, CSW's lack of depth on the bench due from absenteeism and some illnesses prevented them from sustaining this style of play for the remainder of the game. The Gryphons watched their lead quickly diminish into a 57-42 heartbreaking loss.

It was a well played game from both teams and a great learning experience for CSW's boys, who'll get another shot at Waring next week.
