Kasem Kydd ’14
received an impressive National Gold Key Award for his entire portfolio which consisted of four drawing and four sculpture pieces. His lauded pieces will be on display at the Art.Write.Now. National Exhibition at the Sheila C. Johnson Design Center at Parsons The New School for Design and Pratt Institute's Pratt Manhattan Gallery.

Nine CSW students were recipients of the top honor of Gold Key awards, and six students received Silver Key awards. Thousands of individual pieces of art and portfolios were submitted by students in grades 7-12 from independent, public and parochial schools in Massachusetts. The collection of art included mixed media, painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, film and animation.

Gold Key awards were also given to Mimi Barress ’17, Ben Blaustein ’17, Jordan Carey ’15, Anna DeLong ’15, Katie Falk ’14, Josh Glass ’15, Anne Hittson ’14 and Noa Machover ’15. The portfolio of Sadie Dix ’14 and five students with individual pieces received a Silver Key award. All other recognized work was given an honorable mention.

“This was another fantastic assortment of high caliber artwork from our students,” said Tony Loreti, chair of the art department. “Although as a department, we don't emphasize contests when it comes to art, this is an important honor for our students, especially those interested in pursuing art at the college level.”

The Scholastic Art and Writing Awards date back to 1923 and have grown to become the longest-running, most prestigious recognition program for creative teens in the U.S. Noteworthy past winners include Andy Warhol, Sylvia Plath, Truman Capote, Stephen King and many more.

National awards were given to 1,800 students across the Commonwealth. On June 6, students, educators, families and friends will gather at Carnegie Hall to honor National Medalists at the 2014 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards National Ceremony. This special event will be webcast live.

Congratulations to all!
