Jane's Pocket Change: Revisiting CSW

CSW is a striving place, always seeking to be better in some way, never resting on its laurels. Not smug. Sometimes fairly casual, always welcoming. What I mostly love about these revisit days is that everyone gets involved and everyone cares--we are very proud of what we do here and we welcome families who can ensure that our extraordinary mission thrives.

These weeks in April offer families whose daughters and sons have been accepted to CSW for next year the opportunity to visit and see more of what we offer as a school. It's a very competitive independent school market in the Greater Boston area with perhaps the largest numbers of private schools confined to one geographic area in the country. On Sunday of this week we welcomed families of color with a special reception designed to highlight the ways that CSW is devoted to providing a strong academic program for all students and in addition, pays the right kind of attention to students who have not "traditionally" attended these settings in large numbers. My message on Sunday is the same message that I aim to convey all week to all families: that as a progressive school we place students first and aim to create a balanced, inclusive school setting where they can develop their opinions, deepen their thinking and enjoy being exposed to the myriad of options that the mod system offers.

As a current student or family reading Pocket Change today, what would you notice about CSW on a revisit? It's always valuable to place yourselves in the shoes of first time visitors. Do they see what we see? Do they see the genuine, comfortable relationships between teachers and students? The ease of student friendship groups? The ways in which we ask our students to construct their own learning through project-based assignments, through interdisciplinary thinking? Do they see the joy, the fun, the smiles?

CSW is a striving place, always seeking to be better in some way, never resting on its laurels. Not smug. Sometimes fairly casual, always welcoming. What I mostly love about these revisit days is that everyone gets involved and everyone cares--we are very proud of what we do here and we welcome families who can ensure that our extraordinary mission thrives.

Take a moment to revisit CSW whenever you can; I know we love what we see.
