In a thrilling, yet heartbreaking defeat in Hyde Park on Monday, May 19, the valiant CSW Girls Tennis' squad came up just a couple games short, being defeated 2-3 by Boston Trinity Academy. All members of the CSW tennis squad are to be commended for a valiant effort against such an impressive and fundamentally sound tennis team such as Boston Trinity Academy.

In Singles, Maya Barnes '17 displayed her quintessential earnestness and aggressiveness on the court. Despite her best efforts, and jaw dropping precision on her groundstrokes (especially her backhands), Maya encountered a tennis player determined not to lose. This was a very impressive effort from the freshman tennis wonder. The final tally was 5-8. This score, like all scores, does not reveal the valiant way that Maya fought for every point, including the final point.

In Number Two Singles, Sara Bakalchuk '15 exhibited a wonderful comeback, fighting off a less than ideal beginning, and propelling her way to a decisive 8-4 victory. Sara continues to impress all with her speedy serves, and great instincts on the tennis court.

In Number Three Singles, Simenesh Semine '17 put forward another stellar effort, before succumbing to a steadfast opponent. Simenesh is to be commended for her moxie and enthusiasm. Simenesh continued to hone her serving skills, and forehands. This freshman tennis star has a bright future in front of her.

In Number One Doubles, Leila Burnham '15 and Zhouran Yu '15 yet again earned the title of "net monsters", as they dominated their opponents on volleys and overhead smashes. Unfortunately, they came up a trifle short, falling 6-8. Leila and Zhouran continued to be aggressive at net, and all were impressed by their tremendous effort.

In Number Two Doubles, Sarah Buta '17 and Gioia Chaouch '14 played what might have been the most competitive match of the day. This match featured several games of multiple deuces, long rallys, and for one coach who will remain anonymous, gray hair-instilling points. The team continually answered every challenge from the upstart BTA squad, and finally prevailed. Sarah and Gioia had never played together before this match, but carried on as if they had been doubles experts for eons. They clinched this match after consistent serving in the final game, holding on for a well deserved victory, 8-6.
