In partnership with The Rivers School, CSW will host a screening of the feature documentary film, I’m Not Racist…Am I? on November 5th, 2014.

The Cambridge School of Weston is the first high school in the area to present the film, which brings together 12 New York City teenagers for one school year to discuss race and privilege in a series of workshops and conversations with friends and family members. The filmmaker's intent was to inspire others to “recognize and interrupt racism in their own lives.”

I’m Not Racist…Am I? is part of a larger initiative called “Deconstructing Race,” which was developed by The Calhoun School in New York City (a Progressive Education Lab partner school). The main goal of the initiative was to create a multimedia platform to encourage young people, their families, and teachers to begin talking about structural systemic racism in their own lives and in the world around them. Susan Buta P ‘17, co-head of the newly formed CSW parent group 'Parents Association Committee on Equity and Diversity' (P.A.C.E.D.) shares, “I am proud that CSW will be the first high school in the area to premiere the film I’m Not Racist…Am I? CSW is a powerful, emergent voice for exploring and acting on issues for a “safe-for-all” educational environment. Racism affects everyone in every community and it takes courage to deeply examine our culture’s racist tendencies. Attendees represent 10 schools, demonstrating the recognized need for discussion about racism in educational settings. Our CSW families are advantaged to lead the way in what will be on everybody’s radar screen in the next five years.”

The viewing will be followed by a Q&A session with the filmmaker Catherine Wiggington Greene. The screening will take place on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. in the Robin Wood Theatre, Mugar Center for the Performing Arts. The entire CSW community is invited to attend.

Please RSVP to jtucker@csw.org by October 31.
