Once again, CSW had a very strong showing at the 2015 Boston Globe Scholastic Art & Writing Awards presented by the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (SMFA). Gold Key awards, the top honor, were given to 13 students and 11 students received Silver Key awards.

Thousands of individual pieces of art and portfolios were submitted by students in grades 7-12 from independent, public and parochial schools in Massachusetts. The collection of art included mixed media, painting, drawing, written material, photography, sculpture, film and animation.

Three students were recipients of Gold Key awards for their entire portfolio of work: Will Close ‘15, Dylan Davis ‘15 (photography), and Noa Machover ‘15. Silver Key awards were also given to six students for their portfolios: Katie Blumstein ‘15, Dylan Davis ‘15 (art), Josh Glass ‘15, Amanda Poorvu ‘15, Willa Cosinuke '15 and Max Pratt ‘15. An additional twelve students received Honorable Mentions. Several students received awards for multiple pieces of art.

Will Close '15 was also nominated for an American Visions award, an incredible accomplishment, given that he is among only five selected form the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

“We are all so proud of the diverse range of student work,” said Tony Loreti, chair of the visual arts department. “This year’s winning pieces are a strong representation of the creative skills of our students. The results are always based on some degree of subjectivity (there are always deserving works that go unrecognized), but nonetheless we are very pleased with this year’s awards."

This year’s Gold and Silver award winners will be honored at a ceremony held at the Museum of Fine Arts on March 7. Exhibition of Gold Key work will be on display March 7–15, at 808 Gallery at Boston University, 808 Commonwealth Avenue, Boston, MA 02215 from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. each day.
