  • Gabriella ’24 Shines in Slam Poetry Competition

Gabriella Lipstich ’24 recently participated in Write Here, Write Now, Speak Loud, a youth spoken word festival in Boston run by the organization Mass Poetry. She participated in both the individual and team competitions. Her team garnered first place in round one, earning them a spot in the finals with four other teams, and a third place finish overall. On the individual side, Gabrielle performed in the preliminary Boston Regional bout in April, and won, making her one of 15 poets, aged 13 to 19, invited to participate in the Massachusetts finals, which took place on May 5. Deemed one of the top six performers in her bracket, Gabriella will now move on to compete in the Brave New Voices teen poetry slam festival, set to take place in Washington, DC, in July, alongside fellow poets from around the world.

If you or someone you know is struggling, don't hesitate to reach out to a trusted adult or use the resources available to you. • May 9: AAPI Heritage Month Spotlight + Book of the Week

    EXPLORE
May is AAPI Heritage Month and the CSW Library is highlighting stories from Filipino authors. This selection features both realistic YA fiction that speaks to the Filipino diaspora, as well as some memoir and graphic memoir. On display at the front of the library through the month of May, and available here digitally.

As a reminder, all of our physical displays are available virtually, as well. Check them out any time here.

    READ
Each week, the CSW Library highlights one title in our BOOK OF THE WEEK feature to help you choose (or not choose) your next read.

    IMOGEN, OBVIOUSLY by BECKY ALBERTALLI

    WHAT IT'S ABOUT
Imogen may be hopelessly heterosexual, but she’s got the World’s Greatest Ally title locked down. And when she visits her best friend, Lili, at college who is newly-out, newly-graduated, and newly thriving, with a cool new squad of queer college friends, no one knows that Imogen’s a raging hetero – not even Lili’s best friend, Tessa. The more time Imogen spends with chaotic, freckle-faced Tessa, the more she starts to wonder if her truth was ever all that straight to begin with.

    GOOD TO KNOW

    WHERE TO CHECK IT OUT
This book is available to check out from our physical collection, as well as on ebook and audio.

This selection is in celebration of Jewish Heritage Month, which is observed annually in May. See our collection featuring author Becky Albertalli here. This book of the week feature was written by CSW Library Ambassador Matilda Leighton '24.

  • Mod 5 Wrap-Up

Mod 5 was a whirlwind! Between Social Justice Day and Earth Day and the many special schedules that we had, the five weeks went by in a flash! Of course our final All Boarders Weekend of the year was the most fun, full of lip syncing and game show competition and of course good food. Weekend activities took us mini-golfing, playing laser tag, visiting the Aquarium in Boston and navigating escape rooms at Level99. We also had our usual trips to Chinatown, Harvard Square and Waltham.

Our students engaged in deep learning and reflection during Social Justice Day which was focused on gun legislation and we had the amazing privilege of welcoming David Hogg to campus. On Earth Day, the organization Our Children's Trust talked to us about climate change and advocacy that youth around the country have been involved with, especially in the state court systems. Both days really seemed to activate our students and remind them that they can be agents of change. We ended the mod with a fantastic Art Show and Dance performances and a well deserved break. We are so excited for Mod 6 and all of the exciting events that come with closing out the school year!
  • Final Sunday Dinner May 19!

We have one Sunday dinner left this year that we are really looking forward to. Students should be back on campus by 5:30 on May 19 for a special meal and fun programming afterwards.
