We know that students thrive when they feel seen and valued. That’s why we foster a culture where difference is celebrated, equity is prioritized, and everyone is empowered to show up as their full self.
Our formal values of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging are not just words on a page — they are active, evolving practices that shape everything we do.

Affinity & Alliance Groups

  • Adoption Affinity Group

    The goal of this affinity group is to create a space where community members feel supported and comfortable sharing their experiences with adoption

  • Asian Heritage Affinity Group

    An affinity group for any Asian, Asian American, and Pacific Islander identifying students, faculty, and staff. We seek to provide a safe and supportive environment for discussions around identity, culture, social issues, activism, and more.

  • Black Latino Asian Indigenous Men (BLAIM)

    Our mission is to create a safe and open space where individuals can freely express and explore various aspects of their experiences within the broader community of men of color. We are committed to promoting equity and justice, not only within our community but also in the broader society. 

  • Black Student Union

    The Black Student Union (BSU) at CSW is an affinity space held on campus for black-identifying students. BSU strives to create a safe space for students that fosters unity, black empowerment, and comfort at CSW. Our meeting topics range from talking about the black experience within CSW to larger-world conversations about what it means to be Black in society. The Black experience is not a monolith, and our BSU also explores the different intersectionalities of Black people, as well as of the Black diaspora.

  • Circle of Sisters

    Circle of Sisters is an affinity group on campus where female-identifying students and faculty of color can come together to feel uplifted and valued. Our ultimate goal is to create a tight-knit community of women of color on campus who are powerful and supported.

  • Community Crossroads

    A space where we as Christians, can provide a welcoming environment as we teach others about another type of religion that isn't prominent in the CSW community.

  • FemCo

    Learn about and discuss various topics surrounding women’s rights and gender equity. We learn about inspiring women, analyze current events and have engaging discussions. Anybody can be a member regardless of gender identity!

  • First Gen Affinity Group

    Is an affinity group at CSW dedicated to building a community where first-generation students can share their experiences, and receive resources that can help guide them through new life and academic experiences.

  • GSA

    A GSA should be a place where everyone feels safe, welcome, included, affirmed, andempowered. Solidarity is voluntary, collective, sustained action based on an understanding that we don’t all share the same risks, and we must work across all differences to ensure that every student has the right to a safe, supportive, and LGBTQ+-
    inclusive education.

  • Jewish Student Affinity Space

    The Jewish Student Affinity Space aims to create a community in which Jewish culture, faith, and heritage are celebrated and amplified. We facilitate discussions in which we discuss and deepen our understanding of our own Jewish identities and how these relate to current events, at CSW and beyond.

  • La Sociedad

    This is a community space for Latinx or Hispanic students of any nationality to be represented and supported through their journey at CSW and beyond.

  • Mixed Heritage

    Mixed Heritage is an affinity group open to anybody for whom ‘mixedness’ is a significant part of their lived experience. The group aims to establish that Mixed Heritage is an affinity within itself. Mixed Heritage seeks to foster authenticity to support mixed folks and their families in their radical struggle to reclaim and reconcile their identity!

  • Neurodiversity

    We’re building a community where all people who learn and think differently can feel supported.

  • QPoC Affinity

    A space for students and faculty of color who also identify with the LGBTQ+ community.

  • Students on Financial Aid (SOFA)

    SOFA is a place for students on financial aid, no matter how great or small the amount, to talk about their experiences. We founded this group to form a stronger sense of community amongst those on aid, understanding that many of us can often relate to similar difficulties and issues.

  • Trans Affinity Group (TAGs)

    TAGs is the transgender affinity group for CSW students. We meet weekly and discuss topics ranging from current laws affecting trans people around the world to how everyone's weeks have been. TAGs is an affinity space therefore only students who identify as trans (binary or non-binary) are invited to attend. It's important that trans students have a space to talk about their identity as well as have a space to just be with other trans people.

  • Welcoming to all

    Our 15+ affinity and alliance groups offer students who share aspects of identity or lived experience to connect meaningfully, support one another, and explore their voices. 

  • Engaged in meaningful, diverse coursework

    Students here take courses like Decolonizing Women, Human Rights in Motion, Race in the U.S., and LGBTQ+ Literature.

  • Socially responsible learners

    CSW was the first independent school in the U.S. to make social justice a graduation requirement.

  • Continually learning and growing

    Faculty and staff participate in regular DEIB training and reflective practices.

CSW—a gender-inclusive day and boarding school for grades 9-12—is a national leader in progressive education. We live out our values of inquiry-based learning, student agency, and embracing diverse perspectives in every aspect of our student experience. Young people come to CSW to learn how to learn and then put what they learn into action—essential skills they carry into their futures as doers, makers, innovators, leaders, and exceptional humans who do meaningful work in the world.
