Progressive Education in the Age of AI

CSW invites parents and guardians to consider what changes ChatGPT, 3.5 and now 4, as well as other AI mean for the future of education. Much of what is reported in the media reveals the impressive content capabilities of AI. As a progressive school, what do these advances in technology mean for us? What are the roles of collaboration, problem solving, active participation, and experiential learning when AI can supply the content, whether accurate or not? This panel of teachers and administrators from CSW will explore the challenges and opportunities presented in this moment and what are some appropriate and ethical approaches that continue to center a student’s learning experience.

CSW—a gender-inclusive day and boarding school for grades 9-12—is a national leader in progressive education. We live out our values of inquiry-based learning, student agency, and embracing diverse perspectives in every aspect of our student experience. Young people come to CSW to learn how to learn and then put what they learn into action—essential skills they carry into their futures as doers, makers, innovators, leaders, and exceptional humans who do meaningful work in the world.
