The CSW Science Department seeks to develop curious and confident science students who approach problem-solving with innovation, collaboration of diverse viewpoints, scientific literacy, and a joy of learning.
Our progressive curriculum provides a broad scientific foundation while allowing for choice and deep study through our unique selection of courses. Our course offerings provide opportunities for place-based science learning and interdisciplinary studies that explore connections between disciplines within and beyond science. We place students at the center of the learning experience, encouraging the development of supportive and authentic relationships where each student is seen as an individual and challenged to grow as a scientific thinker.
We value the process of learning as much as the product. We celebrate curiosity, iteration, and failure as essential aspects of learning. As scientific practitioners, students employ observation, experimentation, and quantitative reasoning skills while relying on evidence and context. Our science curriculum challenges students to grow as global citizens by examining the intersection of scientific concepts and their context and exploring themes of community, sustainability, and social justice.
