XC at Gann

Lisa Mikkelsen
It was definitely a Fall day at our Cross Country meet at Gann on October 17th. The temperatures were cool but the wind was brutal for all the runners.

The boys race went off at 4:00 with nine schools competing. Our boys team is so deep with talent! This was the team’s second race at Gann this year and the team hit a lot of personal records (PRs)! The scoring came from Ben Duffy-Howard (’19) with a :40 second PR and 6th place overall, Jack Zhang (’20) with a :49 second PR and 15th place overall, Dmitri Kiryk (’21) with a :13 second PR and 18th place overall, Surya Rajamani (’22) with a 6 second PR (despite a small mishap due to the wind during the race) and a 20th place overall and Roger Horstmann (’22) with a whopping 1 minute PR and 22nd place overall.

We are happy to have Evan Scully (’19) back from injury and Henry Li (’21) who ran with the team last year returning to the team for Mod 2.  Both provided “spoiler points” for the team.

Honorable mentions go to, William Huang (’19) who PR’d his Gann time by 1:40, Oscar Zhao (’22) who PR’d his Gann time by 1:16 and Peter Yin (’20) who PR’d his Gann time by :27 seconds!!!

All these efforts resulted in the Boys team taking 2nd place!!!  Congratulations!

The girls race started at 4:25 with seven schools competing. The weather went from bad to worse as rain was added to the blustery winds. These girls showed their mental strength and fought through the race. Congratulations to Katie Baum (’21) for picking off several runners who were ahead of her at the 2-mile mark and finished in 2nd place overall. Helping push each other along, Bella Patel (’20) and Zoe Davis (’21) ran a close race. Bella finished in 9th place overall with an impressive 1:33 course PR and Zoe finished in 10th place overall with a :5 second course PR.

Our next meet is Thursday, October 25, 2018 at Larz Anderson Park hosted by Brimmer & May.

Please note that our MBIL Championship meet is next Wednesday, October 31st at Gann Academy. Boys race starts at 3:00. It would be wonderful to have our extended team of family and friends out there cheering the team on.
