Delaney '26 Earns Honorable Mention in Princeton Playwriting Contest
Alphabet Soup, an original play by Delaney Grimes ’26, has earned Honorable Mention in Princeton University’s 10-Minute Play Contest, a nationally recognized competition that draws submissions from high school students across the country.
Delaney’s play, which was written as part of the Theatre Department’s “Writing Plays for Production” course, follows “M” and “F” as they employ an unconventional form of self-administered couples therapy after tensions arise during an intimate moment. Their method is the “alphabet game,” or a verbal exercise where they take turns starting their sentences with consecutive letters of the alphabet. As the game (and their argument) progresses, F becomes increasingly more frustrated as M struggles to find a suitable use for the letter X, finding a double meaning in the letter X and the initial conflict: M’s lingering feelings for his ex.
