Hola! Today was our final day with our host families in Las Tablas, before we reunite and get on the road early tomorrow morning.
I had a slow morning today with some time to chat with my host family at home (and meet some 2 week old puppies!) before we went to a festival for Semana Santa. I was able to enjoy traditional Panamanian music, festivities, and observe the cultural ensembles worn by Las Reinas while I met up with some of my fellow CSW students.
A few people, such as Owen, Abe, and Zavier, went out with their host families to get souvenirs. Owen and Abe got to try out some traditional Panamanian sandals, typically made for dancing, while Zavier found jerseys from local soccer + baseball teams.
Nia, Sofia, and Rose spent the day together at a famous beach and local river, making Guarapo (fresh cane juice).
Similarly, Lily visited her family’s farm and also observed how to make various sugar cane products, like Miel de Caña (cane honey). Afterwards, she picked oranges and swam in a nearby river. And Iris visited another cane farm as well, with cows to go with it!
Charlotte had the opportunity to try on a traditional outfit for Carnival, handmade by her host family themselves.
Parker went to a parade for La Reina de la Calle Abajo 2027, and visited a family farm to see their horse.
To close it off, Theo, Bee, Avery, Emma, and Andrew all got to spend some quality time with their host families, whether that be at the beach, by the pool, or bonding over videogames!
