Today began with an early breakfast before we made our way to the coffee farm: Santa Clara. Located just south of the Costa Rican border, this farm is known worldwide, their blend even winning in an international barista competition! We got a tour of the farm and the different types of coffee the family makes (Geisha, Caturra, Pacamara…). We also got to plant our own coffee trees, to which we were told to return in around three years to see them start producing.
After our time in the field, we had a delicious lunch in the misty mountains. However, our meal wasn’t quite over as afterward we had a tasting of all the different notes they put into their coffee. We tried different flavoring they used to give the coffee different tastes, such as sweet or sour undertones. Next, we got to try their different blends of coffee and see if we could identify the underlying tones in the coffee.
Next, we returned to the hotel for dinner, and to finish up some work. Some people conducted interviews with those from Mi Ambiente, or worked on their interdisciplinary projects. We finished off with watching Maze Runner, and are ready for tomorrow!
