Leaving Cerro Punta + Coffee, Cacao Trees, Chickens, and Even Pigs!

Today was our last full day in Cerro Punta! After another delicious breakfast, we said goodbye to our tour guides, Yiris and Paola, from El Sistema Nacional de Áreas Protegidas (SINAP). Next, we departed for Río Sereno, the hometown of our bus driver, Roger.

On the way, we stopped at Lago Río Sereno to soak in the sun with Nippy, a puppy that accompanied us! We also visited a town located along the Costa Rican border, where we bought groceries to use later in the afternoon.

At Roger’s house, we saw coffee and cacao trees, chickens, and even pigs! We also shared a delicious home-cooked meal prepared by Roger’s mother and spent time playing volleyball in the yard. To wrap up the day, we handed out goodie bags to the children of Río Sereno and visited the town’s church, where we listened to them sing.

We ended the night by watching Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials and tried to get plenty of rest before waking up early the next morning.
