You’ve outgrown the one-size-fits-all track. With over 250 courses in our course catalog, the Mod System offers you the agency to co-create a schedule you can see yourself in. No two paths at CSW are exactly alike.
Here, you won't be pigeonholed into being one "type" of kid. Musical theatre gurus attend lunchtime drone club meetings and varsity basketball players lead school-wide debates.
Life isn't something that starts after graduation. You want high school to be a vibrant journey of present curiosity, intellectual joy, and meaningful moments, not four years of robotic resume padding.
You value living life in person with human-to-human interaction over the digital confines of your phone. You want a community where people look each other in the eye, debate lively at lunch, and truly connect.
You're ready to drop the mask without feeling like you have to be the person society and the internet tell you to be. Here, individuality is not just accepted, it's the bedrock of our culture.
You want to move the world forward, not just pass a test. As the first independent school in the country with a Social Justice graduation requirement, we give you the space and voice for real action.
Learning is not a spectator sport. Whether in a university-grade lab, a seminar debate, or an art studio, you want to dive deep, take risks, and build an exceptional portfolio alongside inspiring mentors.
If these clues hit home, you aren’t an outlier. You are simply a CSW student who hasn’t arrived on campus yet.
The Mod System: How it Works
Six Mods Per Year
The Academic Year is divided into six, six-week marking periods called modules or "mods."
90-Minute Blocks
During each mod, students take three blocks of academic classes that meet every day, usually for 90 minutes. These classes take place during A, B, and C-blocks.
Double Blocks
Most courses are taught in a single block, but those that demand more time — like science labs — are taught in double, back-to-back blocks.
Multi-Mod Courses
Some courses, particularly those in math and languages, span consecutive mods.
The D Block
Students are also required to take a fourth block, known as D Block, during which they take part in athletics, physical education, community service projects, performing arts, and an array of other electives.
Earning Credit
For each block of instruction, students are awarded one credit. Three blocks of credit is equivalent to a full-year course in a traditional schedule.
