Frequently Asked Questions

List of 6 frequently asked questions.

  • What are the eligibility requirements for Launch to Calculus?

Students who have completed Elementary Functions and Trigonometry and have been recommended for additional review before enrolling in Calculus AB are ideal candidates for Launch to Calculus, as the course strengthens core precalculus skills while introducing key concepts that support a smooth transition into calculus. It is also an excellent option for students who have a significant gap between precalculus and calculus or who simply want added support and confidence before beginning a school-year calculus course. Students transferring into CSW who have taken precalculus elsewhere are encouraged to take this class as an entry point to CSW’s math program, and the course is additionally open to any student who has completed precalculus and would like an early, low-pressure preview of calculus in a summer setting.

  • What are the eligibility requirements for Foundations in Algebra?

Students whose transcripts or placement test indicate that they have not yet fully mastered the skills of algebra 1 should take this course if they would like to begin their school year in geometry rather than algebra 1 or geometry + preliminary topics. Students are also invited to take Foundations in Algebra to revisit concepts before enrolling in algebra 2, especially if their algebra 1 experience was a while ago or if they are not feeling confident with the material. Enrollment in this course may also be recommended or required by the admissions office to ensure future success in CSW’s program.
  • What are the eligibility requirements for Geometry Enrichment?

Students who took algebra 1 their 9th grade year and are interested in accelerating their math studies, including accessing calculus courses their senior year, are ideal students for the summer geometry course. Students may take summer geometry before their geometry course, especially if there are skills in geometry that they are less familiar or confident with.

  • Can students take both Foundations in Algebra and Geometry Enrichment this summer?

No. Our courses are designed for students to fully immerse in one subject in their summer studies, and time after the course to process the material and continue practice is important for future success. If students are unsure which course would benefit their learning and future coursework at CSW, they should consult the math department for a recommendation.
  • Do these courses fulfill CSW’s mathematics credit requirements?

Currently, CSW students must study through Algebra 2, as well as at least one additional elective course in mathematics beyond the Algebra 2 level. As these courses are designed for deeper understanding and development of the subject matter, they do not fulfill CSW’s mathematics requirement, but rather enhance a student’s experience in their course of study.

  • Will summer coursework appear on the participating student's CSW transcript?

Summer courses are delivered and assessed differently from school-year classes. At the end of the program, each student will receive an official record of completion and performance.

For CSW students, this record is included as an attachment to their transcript when applying to colleges or sending materials to other institutions, rather than appearing as a traditional academic credit.

For students from other schools, an official course report will be provided to families to share with their home school. Whether and how the course is reflected on the student’s transcript – or if credit is awarded – is determined by that school’s policies.
