CSW Welcomes New Faculty and Staff

Kristen Bock started teaching English at CSW this past spring. Kristen has 20 years’ experience as a teacher and a reading and writing tutor, most recently at The Fenn School (Concord). She also has conducted education research and designed curriculum for various literacy programs. Kristen’s B.A. in English and Spanish literature is from Colby College; she earned her Ed.M. from Harvard Graduate School of Education and is currently earning a M.Ed. in literacy education from Boston University’s School of Education.

Lace Campbell, a seasoned children’s educator, director and producer, is our new theatre department chair. Lace comes to CSW from Beyond the 4th Wall Theatre and Creative Arts Studio, where she was the founder and executive director for nearly 20 years. For the past 5 years Lace has also been working with teenagers on social justice issues at the Cambridge Youth Council. Lace is a graduate of Tufts University with a B.A. in theatre and psychology.

Jeanne Segal started working in CSW’s theatre department this past winter as the Music Director for our intensive and main musical productions. A music and theatre educator, integrated arts curriculum specialist, choral conductor, musical and theatre director, pianist, and piano/voice teacher, Jeanne has worked at CATS Academy Boston, Conservatory Lab Charter School of Boston and Brimmer and May (Brookline). Jeanne earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music from the Cleveland Institute of Music. 

The English department welcomes Derek Thomas, who is relocating from Indianapolis where he taught English at the University High School of Indiana (Carmel, IN) for the past 10 years. Derek will also join the CSW residential life program as a dorm parent. Derek earned his M.A. in humanities from the University of Chicago and his B.A. in English and art history from Brown University.

Ted Weesner started teaching English at CSW this past spring. Ted has over 20 years’ experience as a writing course lecturer at Tufts University, the Museum School (Boston) and Emerson College. He has written a multitude of articles, essays, reviews and fiction which have been published in a variety of publications, including The Boston Globe. Ted has a M.F.A. from Emerson College in creative writing and earned his B.A. in English and economics from Trinity College.

New Staff Charlie Bigelow, who has over 20 years’ experience in all aspects of the construction business, has joined the facilities staff. Charlie’s area of expertise is in carpentry; he most recently worked as a maintenance tech/carpenter at The Carroll School (Lincoln). Charlie earned a certificate in HVAC from the Associated Technical Institute.

Though she needs no introduction for most of us, we’d be remiss to not include in this list our new head of school, Lise Charlier! Lise joined CSW on July 1, fresh from her relocation from Baltimore where she was Director of Studies and Strategic Initiatives at the Severn School. Prior to her work at Severn, Lise was Upper School Assistant Principal at Friends School of Baltimore. In addition to her administrative responsibilities, Lise will also be teaching a French class in the spring. Lise holds a M.Ed. from Johns Hopkins University and a B.S. from Georgetown University.

Brandon Fernald is CSW’s new Director of Facilities (named interim in April; became permanent as of July 1). Brandon’s most recent work has been at The Carroll School (Lincoln) and Harvard University. Brandon holds a B.S. in project management and a M.S. in building construction from the Wentworth Institute of Technology.

CSW welcomed Development Associate Nat Fixx this past winter. Nat most recently worked at Belmont Hill School (Belmont) as an assistant in the admissions office. Nat has worked on two political campaigns, directing outreach operations and holding responsibilities in fund-raising and communications. Nat graduated from Boston University with a B.A. in political science.

The Business Office welcomed Meera Garala as Staff Accountant (responsible for accounts payable and the school store) this past spring. Meera arrived at CSW after earning two degrees from the University of Massachusetts/Dartmouth, a B.S. in accountancy and most recently a M.B.A. in finance.

Some of you will recognize Sean Reynolds, who has worked summers at CSW since 2016. Sean graduated from Springfield College in 2018 with a B.S. in athletic training and spent the last year working and traveling with UMASS Amherst’s football and baseball teams. Sean will be working on campus this academic year as a member of the facilities team, as well as in the athletics department as an athletic trainer.

Toni Singleton is CSW’s new School Nurse (named interim in January; became permanent as of July 1). Prior to joining CSW, Toni was an admission nurse at the Barbara McInnis House/Boston Healthcare for the Homeless and a staff nurse at Arbour Hospital. Toni has worked as a school nurse at several charter and pilot schools in the Boston area. Toni earned her B.S.N. from Grambling State University and a B.A. in dance from the University of Alabama.
The Cambridge School of Weston is a progressive high school for day and boarding students in grades 9–12 and PG.
