Lise's Lens: April 28, 2022
This week, Lise shares her musings on gummy bears, the audiobooks she's loving, and what it's like to be a teenager today.
WHAT I’M READING
WHAT I’M LISTENING TO/WATCHING
So I loved the book
The Nine (the true story of a band of women who survived the worst of Nazi Germany) by Gwen Strauss, but a relative recently recommended that I also experience it as an audiobook because it is narrated by Juliet Stevenson. I’ve just started listening — what a pleasure!
I also loved listening to
Americanah written by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and narrated by Adjoa Andoh, and, of course, the Harry Potter series, written by JK Rowling and narrated by Jim Dale.
WHAT I’M THINKING/TALKING ABOUT
- Over the past few years, I think we all have read something detailing just how hard it is to be a teenager these days. There are many studies related to the topic, but it will be really fascinating — and important — to hear from young people themselves. I am already looking forward to reading the results of this survey of thirteen-year-olds from The New York Times. How often do we really pause to ask our children/students questions like this?
WHAT CAUGHT MY EYE
Although the weather remains a little colder than some of us would like, it is heartening to see signs of spring all over campus. I especially love hearing the peeper frogs singing during the day and throughout the evening. The warm weather will be here soon enough!
