The Boys’ Varsity soccer team celebrated their successful season at the MBIL semifinal game last week. Although the team ultimately lost to Waring in the Massachusetts Bay Independent League Division 1 semifinals, both the coach and players were thrilled with their success as a strong team all season.
Team Co-Captains and CSW seniors Eli Scribner-Moore ‘13 and Max McGleughlin ’13 have been on the Varsity team for all four years and believe that the team has worked hard to make this a memorable season.
“CSW's community fosters team spirit and encouragement, while creating an atmosphere where talented soccer players can thrive,” shared Max, the team's starting goalie.
“As a senior captain, I take great pride in the achievements of the team and could not have asked for a better co captain,” said Eli, a sweeper. "I am very sad to be leaving, but I know they will continue to grow and bond as a team, students and brothers,” he added.
With a true blend of upper classmen, freshmen and sophomores on this year’s team, unusual for a Varsity team, the players brought individual skillsets, and the older students led by example. Many of the players had been playing together on the team for the previous year or two, which activated a greater collective atmosphere.
This is the second year as the Boys’ Varsity soccer coach for Robin Plimpton-Magee ‘00. He said that he felt the team was more prepared for practice, and had much clearer expectations for success this year.
“Most successful teams have great captain leadership,” Robin said. “Co-Captains Max and Eli have different strengths that the team really benefitted from. Their communication skills not only compliment one another, but they have been highly effective in encouraging and motivating our entire team, with knock out performances by Oliver Wass '13, Noah Rossen ‘14, Caleb Weiss ‘14 and Jacob Arons ‘15,” Robin added.
In addition to the team's collective season-long success, three individual players on the team have been named MBIL All-League players. They are goalie Max McGleughlin, and forwards Noah Rossen and Caleb Weiss.
The CSW Boys’ Varsity team closed the season with an impressive 7 wins, 5 losses and 3 ties. Their final game of the season is today, Friday, Nov. 9 against Dexter Academy at 3:00 p.m. here at CSW.
The team has applied for the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) tournament, and should hear the results by next week.
