Calin Duke Publishes New Guide to Upcycling for the Outdoors
CSW Theatre Faculty Calin Duke has published, How To Upcycle Nearly Everything for the Outdoors, a guide encouraging readers to rethink what they throw away by transforming old clothing into functional outdoor gear.
A follow-up to her earlier book, How To Upcycle Nearly Everything, the new release offers step-by-step instructions for turning items already sitting in your closet or donation pile into useful outdoor essentials, including buffs, mittens, chalk bags, croakies, and even convertible pants. Projects are organized by skill level, making the book accessible to beginners while offering challenges for more experienced makers.
Designed with sustainability in mind, the book encourages readers to rethink consumption and reduce textile waste by giving new life to old materials. In addition to project tutorials, it includes guides to outdoor fabrics, repair techniques, and simple modifications that can extend the life and functionality of existing gear.
"You already have what you need," Calin writes, inviting readers to explore the possibilities hidden in their own closets.
