The Theatre Department is thrilled to present IT CAN’T HAPPEN HERE. IT CAN'T HAPPEN HERE is based on the semi-satirical novel by Sinclair Lewis (1935) and play by Lewis & John C. Moffitt. This piece, in which a liberal rebellion struggles against a newly elected totalitarian government was played simultaneously across America in 1936 through important support by the new Federal Theater Project. Relatively obscure at the time it was published, as of the end of January 2017, the novel was the 8th bestselling book on Amazon. It was out of print in the UK prompting publisher Penguin to order three additional print runs. Former San Francisco Mime Troupe member Darryl Henriques organized simultaneous staged readings of the play at theaters around the country in 2011, and has communicated his excitement and support that we are bringing this work to our high school. The five-act original play was abridged and adapted for the 2017 Minnesota Fringe Festival by Kit Bix, and it is this version that we will produce.

Seating is general admission; no reservations necessary.
