MEET MING

Ming was passionate about art and history while at CSW. She was also a goalie for the soccer team, earning the "Most Valuable Player" award for both seasons she played. Ming's favorite part of boarding at CSW was the close-knit community—she still keeps in touch with many classmates and faculty members and periodically meets up with them all over the globe!

What did you take away from your CSW experience?

I found direction for my life's work at CSW. I decided to earn a master's degree in education because it is my dream to create a school similar to CSW in Thailand so that other Thai students can have the same experience that I had at CSW. I use the lessons that I learned from CSW as a guide for whatever I do in my life. At CSW, each class connected to current events and to each other, creating a meaningful story. We didn't just memorize facts. We created new ideas and connections from the facts we discussed in class. CSW teachers never told us to think or behave a certain way—teachers were there to extend our ideas, rather than circumscribe our ideas. We made sense of the world through learning about the past in various perspectives. CSW is a part of me, and I still think that attending CSW was the turning point in my lfe.

How did CSW prepare you for what came after?

I grew up a lot by being at CSW. I became more conscious about society—about social justice, social impact, equality, identity, and how to make sense of the world. Community was emphasized at CSW, and I cared more about others as a result. CSW taught me to be a good citizen, to be proud of myself, and to support others. CSW taught us to look at everything through multiple perspectives, and I came to understand others more deeply because of that.

What advice would you give future international students?

I never felt I wasted one second at this school. Every moment I spent living at CSW was so precious to me. All the memories I made at CSW still vividly run through my mind. This community will accept you, just the way you are. They even bring out the real you that you might not know about yet. I found myself and my best friends at CSW, and I felt so much more prepared for college than other international students that I met at college.
