CSW Girls' Varsity Tennis Gets First Win of the Season!
In a mesmerizing, never dull tennis contest on Monday, 10 April, the steadfast CSW Girls Tennis team notched its' first victory of this young season. CSW reminded the masses throughout the land of its' resilience and steadfastness, defeating reigning Independent Girls Conference (IGC) champion, Boston Trinity Academy by the razor-thin margin of 3-2.
The CSW girls were guided by Senior Captains Maya Barnes and Simenesh Semine. In Number One singles, Maya Barnes exhibited her tenacity from the baseline, and wowed all folks with a smattering of solid tennis playing. Ms. Barnes was not able to convert her groundstrokes into a sustained attack, ultimately coming up short, 6-8.
In Number Two Singles action, Shi Shi Roberts of brilliantly bountiful Belmont yet again demonstrated why she is such a tremendous asset to the CSW Girls Tennis program. As a first year tennis player, Shi Shi seemed to make the tennis match effortless. Shi Shi executed variously potent groundstrokes, as well as serves. While experiencing a result which was not in her favor, by a tally of 6-8, Shi Shi never failed in her demonstration of energetic hitting and fundamentally sound tennis playing.
In Number Three Singles, Senior Captain Simenesh Semine yet again needed more than 90 minutes (this is unusually long for prep school tennis!) to finally prevail, 8-7 in a RIVETING tiebreaker (7-2) which tested the wills of both wonderful competitors. Simenesh fully embraced rapid court movement, and tracked down every seemingly impossible to reach ball with aplomb and finesse. Simenesh continues to develop her capacity to outmaneuver her opponents, and never surrender on any point in the match.
In Number One Doubles action, Julia Keating, and Sarah Buta, both four year letter winners in tennis at CSW, won the Second tiebreaker, and ultimately final and convincing victory for CSW. In an 8-7 triumph, (7-1 in the tiebreaker) Keating and Buta were fierce at net play, and their aggressiveness was indispensable in their campaign on this halcyon Spring afternoon.
In Number Two Doubles, Senior Caroline Coolidge and Sophomore Maya Feldberg-Bannatyne quickly dispatched of their opponents, 8-1. Both Maya and Caroline were playing their first matches of this young season, and they provided ample reason to continue to tune in to the CSW Girls Varsity Tennis progress during the Spring of 2017. With blistering serves, and solid returns of unpredictable shots from their opponents, both Coolidge and Feldberg-Bannatyne wowed all spectators on this serene and impossibly beautiful for tennis weather.
