Girls' Soccer makes huge comback, but still falls to Waring

Kirsty Hallam
We went into this game knowing that it was going to be one of our toughest competitors. This is a team that had us unable to contain them in our first game against them.

We started off strong and did well to hold them off in the first 10 - 15 minutes, only conceding 2 goals, which was a vast improvement on the previous game. We dominated the game for the majority of the half with them producing goals in the only real time they were in our half during the game. We came out strong for the half, knocking Waring off a bit from the team they had previously seen and expected to see again. We had a few one-on-ones with Ellena Sakai '18 and Waring’s keeper , but we just could not find the back of the net.

The second half we once again came out strong with Lizzie Bowden ’18 scoring from the left wing early on into the second half, Waring countered immediately scoring to put the score to 5-1. The fifth goal shook us and helped Waring to counter again to produce their sixth goal of the game. CSW then worked immediately to get back and produced a goal from Ellena Sakai ’18 after a scramble in Waring’s box. Sara Pratt ’18 was owning the midfield for the entire game, producing through balls for our attackers. She put a ball into Lizzie Bowden’s feet on the wing and she cut in and produced her second goal of the game. This brought CSW back for a fighting chance.

While dominating in the Waring half for the majority of the second half again and missed opportunities came a free kick just outside the box which Caroline Keppler '18 stepped up to take, having had it cleared by Waring’s defense. It spilled out to the top of the box and Addie Santello ’19 took the opportunity to bag her first goal for CSW with a beautiful shot that saw the top corner of Waring’s goal. Waring once again countered and saw the back of our net for the final time in the game.

With only a few minutes left to go Shannon Pyne ’18 saw the back of the net to finish up the game 7-5. Special mention to Sara Pratt '18 who had a fantastic game and was a key impact player throughout.
